Top questions

What is a dash cam, and which camera setup do I need — a front camera, a front and rear setup, or a 360-view camera?

A dash cam (short for dashboard camera) is a small video camera mounted inside your car that records the road while you drive. A front camera records what happens ahead of your car, while a front and rear setup also watches the road behind you for tailgaters or rear-end bumps. A 360-view camera records all around the vehicle, including the cabin and sides, so you can check the product page for each Road Guardian model to pick the coverage that fits your family's driving.

What is loop recording, and what happens when the memory card fills up?

Our Road Guardian dash cam line uses loop recording, which is an automatic feature where the camera records video in continuous segments and never stops on its own. When the memory card fills up, the camera automatically records over the oldest video first so that recording never stops. You do not have to erase old drives by hand before heading out on the road.

What is a TF card, and how big of a memory card do I need?

A TF card (also known as a microSD card) is a small, fingernail-sized memory card that slides into the camera to store your driving videos. Our Road Guardian dash cam line takes a TF card up to 256GB, and on some models a 128GB memory card is included right in the box. A larger card simply holds more older driving footage before loop recording writes over the oldest files.

Questions

A 360-view camera records all around the vehicle, including the cabin and sides, so you can check the product page for each Road Guardian model to pick the coverage that fits your family's driving.

Our Road Guardian dash cam line takes a TF card up to 256GB, and on some models a 128GB memory card is included right in the box. A larger card simply holds more older driving footage before loop recording writes over the oldest files.
RG1, Road Guardian CarPlay or RG3: which should I buy?
RG1 is the essential 4K front + 1080P rear. RG3 adds a 170° lens, GPS and an impact-detection parking monitor. Road Guardian CarPlay adds 3-channel recording and a 10.26-inch touchscreen with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Road Guardian 2 is our budget 4K + 2K dual cam.
Should I get a dash cam for my teen driver?
A dash cam gives both of you peace of mind. It records every drive, so if there's ever an incident, there's clear video evidence of what actually happened — no relying on anyone's word alone. Parents get reassurance that each drive is on record, and new drivers get protection if someone else causes a collision or tries to blame them for something they didn't do. It's set-and-forget: it starts recording when the car starts and keeps the footage on its memory card for the moment it matters.
Does it show speed and location?
Yes. Built-in GPS stamps your recordings with route and speed data.
Where does it mount?
The compact body tucks behind your rear-view mirror.
Does it record while parked?
Impact detection works while parked. Continuous parking surveillance needs a compatible hardwire kit, sold separately.
Will a crash clip get overwritten?
No. The G-sensor locks the current clip automatically.
What's the warranty?
3 years (Bigly Brothers warranty) when this product is bought on biglybrothers.com.
How fast is shipping?
Shipping is free across Canada and usually takes 2–4 business days.
Can I return it?
Yes. This product, when bought on biglybrothers.com, has 90-day free returns (we email you a prepaid label) and a 3-year warranty. Email support@biglybrothers.com with your order number to start.
Does the dash cam record while my car is parked?
Parked recording (a feature where the camera watches your car after you turn off the engine and walk away) depends on the specific camera setup you choose. Because features vary across our Road Guardian line, please check the product page for that model to see if parked recording is supported and whether any extra wiring is needed. Checking the product page ensures you pick the exact setup that matches how and where you park.
Will the dash cam work in cold Canadian winters and hot summers?
Yes, our Road Guardian dash cam line is built to work from minus 40 degrees Celsius to plus 50 degrees Celsius. That means it keeps working when your car is parked outside in deep winter freezes as well as in hot summer sun. You can leave it mounted on your windshield year-round within that temperature range.
Can I use the dash cam video with my insurance company or the police?
Yes, the video recorded by your dash cam can be shown or shared with your insurance company or the police to help show what happened on the road. Having a clear recording of an incident means you do not have to rely only on memory when explaining a collision. While a video does not guarantee a specific decision from the police or an insurance adjuster, it gives you a visual record you can hand over to them.
How hard is it to install a dash cam in my car?
Most drivers can install a dash cam themselves without special tools or a trip to a mechanic. You attach the camera to the inside of your windshield and plug the power cord into your car's power outlet, tucking the wire neatly along the edge of the window trim. If you choose a front and rear setup, you will also run a cable to the back window, so check the product page for that model to see the exact mounting details.
Will a dash cam drain my car battery?
When a dash cam is plugged into a standard car power outlet that turns off with the key, it only draws power while the engine is running and shuts off when you park. If a car's power outlet stays live all the time, or if you use parked recording while the engine is off, unplugging the camera when parked for long stretches prevents battery drain. Please check the product page for that model to see how its power cable works.
How clear is the video when driving at night?
Dash cams are designed to capture headlights, taillights, lane markings, and road activity after dark, though nighttime video on any camera is naturally less detailed than bright daytime video. Glare from oncoming headlights, rain, or a dirty windshield can make small details like distant license plates harder to read at night. Keeping the inside and outside of your windshield clean in front of the lens helps the camera capture the clearest night picture possible.
Do I need Wi-Fi or a phone app to use the dash cam?
No, you do not need home internet, cellular data, or a phone in the car for the camera to record your drive onto its memory card. On some models in the Road Guardian line, there is built-in Wi-Fi (a short-range wireless connection directly between the camera and your phone) and a free companion app (a free program you install on your smartphone) so you can view and save videos without removing the memory card. Check the product page for that model to see if it includes Wi-Fi and the free companion app.
What comes in the box when I buy a Road Guardian dash cam?
Every box includes the dash cam and the basic mounting and power pieces needed to set it up in your vehicle. On some models, a 128GB memory card is also included in the box so you do not have to buy a TF card separately. Because included accessories vary between a front camera, a front and rear setup, and a 360-view camera, please check the product page for that model for the exact box contents.
How do I watch or save a video that I want to keep so it does not get recorded over?
Whenever something important happens on the road, you should save that video clip before loop recording eventually writes over the oldest files on the memory card. On every model, you can pop out the small TF card and plug it into a computer using a card reader to watch and copy the video file onto your computer. In addition, on some models with Wi-Fi and the free companion app, you can connect your phone to the camera right from the driver's seat and download the video straight to your phone.
